Gifts and Disciplines

We had a Bible study today and two of the elements included gifts and disciplines. I thought it was a relavent quesiton for everyone including myself.

What natural abilities has God gifted you with to build up other and the Church?

What spiritual gifts has God given you and formed in you since becoming a Christian?

What spiritual disciplines might you need to try to open yourself to God?

Last thing - we have made two video's for champs camp and it is extremely fun, I feel like I feel the energy all the way in Siberia and I'm sure my ridiculous faces on the video show it. Kids are such an amazing source of energy, fun and excitement aren't they?

I wasn't there for the video but that was one of the first things I was told about when they got home. "We talked to Heath today and he was in Russia" Janice said the response to "Who Rocks the House" was tremendous. She got tears in her eyes as she thought about you guys over there and making the effort to still influence/participate here. Thank you.

I feel that God has pushed me into areas to be involved in His work here, but claiming giftedness in a particular area makes me feel kind of conceited. That maybe false humility speaking but I feel funny saying,"I have the gift of ..." whatever. (I don't actually think there is a gift of "whatever",I wonder what it would be like. The gift of indifference?) Maybe I am afraid to own up to them for fear of having to truly own them and use them fully.

Heath, I see that Chris already ratted on me about being so sappy! I did get really emotional, though. It's funny, but the tears hit me when you started "Who Rocks the House". I just started thinking about all of these kids watching you and I know they were thinking, "He is sooooo cool!" They will NEVER forget you and the role you have played in one small week of their summer. I know that Chris and I aren't your parents, but we are so very proud of all three of you and the work that you are doing. I loof forward to seeing the Lord's plans for your lives unfold over the next several years.
Oh, by the way, it was soooooo incredible to see the people on video that you have been talking about in your blogs.
Stay safe, and keep writing in your blogs. -- Janice

I am with chris on claiming a spiritual gift for myself. I find it hard to define what a "spiritual gift" is, too. If it is in reference to the fruits of the Spirit I think that it has more to do with God enabling us to live a covenanted life in relationship to others, which seems incredibly physical as well. If it is in reference to the lists concerning different roles within the body of Christ, these also strike my as physical manifestations of a God-like spirit in different forms. Thoughts. I guess I am just a bit wary nowadays to language that separates the physical and the spiritual. Not that you were trying to do that- I guess I just wanted to hear more of your thoughts on the subject. All of that said, in place of claims of my own personal giftedness, which might be limited to the spiritual gifts of rambling and obscurity, I wanted to offer my proposals for your giftedness that I have seen over the years:

LOVE, for kids, adults, and those that many in the world forget... A desire to bring PEACE among those in conflict, demonstrated through a life of JOY. Is the ability to make me smile a spiritual gift? If so, you have it. May your passion be understood by all of those with whom you are working.

I think that Brad has clearly demonstrated his gift of rambling and obscurity at tremndous length exhibiting a quality of loquaciousness that may be unmatched.
